The gallery has an active outreach programme and has organised more than 50 skills development workshops for the both the unemployed and for local children. Participants are encouraged to attend mentorship programmes where outcomes such as business development and quality control are discussed. Many of the items produced at workshops are sold through the Gallery Shop.

An annual programme of teachers workshops is offered whereby educators working in the Art & Culture syllabus are given the opportunity to learn practical artmaking skills. Regular holiday programmes for children are also offered

ISIPHETHU PROJECT

Leonie Malherbe is seen here conducting the first course in applique and embroidery in l999. The group continues to work under the umbrella of the gallery. They have exhibited internationally as well as nationally and won many awards.

Some ladies from the Isiphethu Group at a monthly mentorship meeting. Not only has this project earned the women income but it has given them a voice and a means of recording their communal heritage and daily activities in the stories they embroider.

EMBROIDERY ON KNITTING 2009

This course was conducted by Rose Van Waardenberg to several patients from the Municipal Clinic. Regular meetings were held for several months and participants learned to make small bags and keyrings.
